VR Escape Room

This project was an opportunity to develop a variety of challenges that rely on 3D problem solving while also working with frameworks. As part of a three-person team, we built a functional prototype for a sci-fi themed, escape room VR game where two players collaborate with each other to navigate obstacles and solve puzzles. It was created as part of a faculty-led, undergrad research project where we worked with several frameworks on top of Unity, including the Mixed Reality Toolkit (MRTK) and the Augmented Space Library (ASL).

See It In Action

This demo video shows our team's VR escape room prototype in action. The video on top shows what the player is seeing, while the video on bottom shows the players themselves using the VR inputs.

(I apologize for some of the “quirks” with the video. The in-game video is slightly rotated due to an ongoing issue with video capture output from the MR headsets. It was also difficult for the players to stay in frame while using the system.)

Additional Information

The Augmented Space Library (ASL) is a code library built by University of Washington Bothell faculty and grad students. It is designed to assist in the creation of multi-user AR and VR experiences. ASL is built on AWS and Unity.
